221st and Martha Raye at SocTrang

By William (Doug) Mosher, 3/18/2008

Hello everyone....I am Doug Mosher and I was the motor Sgt for the 221 from June 1966 to Aug of 1967. I also did a lot of volunteer back seat flying to let some of you have the break you all so needed. What I am looking for is this, Four you that was there when Martha Raye was on her USO tour and I believe 3 or 4 choppers got ambushed and there were lots of wounded that were brought to our field hospital where Martha helped out untill they could be medavaced to Siagon. I now that alot of us all so steped up to the plate and voluntered our time to help out at the hospital. I all so remember that there were not enough rubber gloves to go around and were kept for the staff and that did not stop us from helping change bandages, empty bed pans, hold our brothers that were in pain and write letters for them. I need all of your help in verifieng that all of this happened. The reason I need it is because the VA had broadcasted that all Vietnam era veterans needed to be checked for Hep-C and I did and tested positive for the virius. For me I know that I had other peoples blood on me several times and I believe that is where I contacted it. I hope that you all have been tested too and that you all are ok, but if you tested postive I would like to hear from you. I am just tired of the VA calling me and lots of other Veterans a liar so they don't have to compensate us for there short commings. Untill the year 2000 they did not test any of us because they had no cure and did not want to panic us. So my fellow brothers if you have not been tested please do it for you. I know it sucks but remember what they did to us over the Agent Orange. So please if any of you can help me please email me at cactuswillie1945@yahoo.com and I will be very greatful. I will answer all that writes and thank all of you in advance. Until then may God bless all of you and your famlies.

Your Shotgun Brother,

Doug Mosher cactuswillie1945@yahoo.com

Hello Doug,

Getting back to you about the operation where we had casualty at Soc Trang and Martha Raye help. I was there when it happened. I'm not sure what you need because I wasn't directly involved like you were. I was present when the casualties were brought in and that Martha Raye help. It happened 18 October 1966. There were 1 KIA and 7 WIA. They worked all night patching up the wounded so they could medevac them out. I hope this help you and if you have anymore questions feel free to contact me. e-mail golf4mcg@valornet.com and my phone number is (254) 694-8811.

Sincerely,

Jim
