Honoring our departed

By Don Modica, 12/22/2008

When I posted on the Guest Book I forgot a very important item. At the 07 reunion we had a Memorial Service where we honered those we lost in country and those who have past on since. We only missed one who died in Vietnam, and his name will be added in 09. Where we have not kept up is with our brothers who have passed away since serving in the 221st. If you know of anyone who has passed since service, please send in what information you have. Send in your information to Monte or myself. Do not be concerned about duplication. Thank

re: John Dobecka

By Cindy Barnes, 5/10/2009

John Dobecka (we called him BIG JOHN) passed away on May 6th. I couldn't get through on the names that were listed on your site. Have been emailing back and forth with Ed S. who had posted on the site. I can get you more information, but need an email address please. John served three tours of duty in Vietname...received Purple Heart with Clusters....He was still PROTECTING and CARING for people at the time of his death. Though he had many health issues...he continued to give even at death, by donating whatever organs they could use. At his funeral, we actually laughed a lot from the stories being told about him.....UNBELIEVABLE, YET TRUE!!! ha. Think y'all would enjoy the stories......Please let me know how I could help with getting you information......and also knowing whether I am sending to correct person.
